how do you define 'Compassion'?
do you live it out?
is it 'Compassion' if you're not living it out?
what do you think?

How you live your life is your theology. What do you think about God? These are my thoughts, my ruminations, my pain, and my struggles, my quirks, my joys - all seeking to answer the tough and not so tough questions of this life. How about you? Pull up a chair to the table. Join in the conversation...

can you be compassionate and set serious limits / boundries too? there seems to be no good balance there.
Phil,
I think you can set boundaries and limits, but the balance comes in several forms. First, there is prayer for wisdom and discernment. Second, I believe that for the most part, compassion needs to be done as a community of faith. Third, Compassion should not lead to burn out (a sign we're taking on too much of the burden ourselves), but it does call for vulnerability (a willingness to trust God, even if we might get burned or used). Ultimately, these things should be done in unison, but if you walk out your front door in the morning and see your neighbor lying face down on his lawn, common sense (that God gave you) dictates you don't stop and pray, but rather run over and see if you can help. As long we we're not secretly (or not so secretly) trying to replace God as the giver of all good things (whose motives are entirely pure anyhow?), we are called to compassion as people of God and as part of the Church of God.
